In late February, for me, the most 'hollow' period in fruits and vegetables. There is still a lot of winter vegetables in the garden - jet broccoli, parsnips, celeriac, beetroot and some leeks, Jerusalem artichokes ... and inventory squash, wishing well pumpkins and butternuts kind. It also remains frozen sauces, fruit ... But we begin to look forward to re-taste with spring vegetables. Harvest shoots peas in February.
That's why young pea shoots are so welcome at this time. I want to tell you about it because it's the first year that I try and I'm totally excited!
I think we can use the seeds of any variety of peas. I read that the market gardeners who provide the restaurants and shops grow snow peas (peas). My seeds were actually pea seeds 'feed' because that's what I had on hand, and it is frankly awesome! These pretty wishing well shoots really taste like peas pods that come with a small 'Crunch' very nice.
I planted a small corner of feed peas, dense in November. They grew slowly during the winter and then the plants are in full force. As the plants grow back (after the cut) I think it will be for a while.
