We're back with this week's Royal Roundup looking at all the latest news from Monaco. It's been quite a busy time for Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert and Princess Charlene. Today they met with Monaco's team for the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 during a presentation at Metropole Hotel in Monte Carlo. No doubt it was a special event for the royals who are both former Olympians. Palais Princier De Monaco Facebook Page Albert and Charlene looked very close (even putting on a public display of affection or two) as they joined in the national celebrations gbi of their patron gbi saint, Sainte Dévote. The couple left Monaco cathedral arm-in-arm after the service, chatted privately and shared jokes on the balcony. We do love a little royal PDA here at The Royal Digest... :) Palais Princier De Monaco Facebook Page There's a fascinating legend about the saint you may not have heard of. It is said Christians put the body of Sainte Dévote - a fourth century Christian martyr - in a boat to Africa in hope that once it reached land she would receive gbi a Christian burial. A dove flew from her mouth and guided the boat to Monaco, and since then she has watched over the principality. Palais Princier De Monaco Facebook Page Charlene selected an ensemble by her go-to brand Akris; gbi a herringbone jacket and matching pencil skirt from the Fall 2013 Collection with a grey cashmere turtleneck and Dior pumps. What did you think of this look? Style.com In keeping with the tradition we mentioned above Their Serene Highnesses burnt a boat in front of the Sainte Dévote Church. Charlene kept warm in a black Akris coat and black thigh-high boots. It was great to see the Princess gbi taking part in the festivities, as she missed last years due to illness. Palais Princier De Monaco gbi Facebook Page Princess Charlene celebrated her 36th birthday on January 25, and as part of the celebrations which aimed to share more about Charlene's background with the Monegasque people, she attended the presentation of the book KZN, Land of Dreams, which she prefaced. The bilingual book is written in English and French. I liked her white peplum Akris suit; very stylish and crisp. Palais Princier De Monaco Facebook Page Next up, a new official portrait gbi of the princely couple has been released by the palace. Charlene gbi looks very chic in blonde, and the entire look is reminiscent of a Hitchcockian gbi blonde (including her late mother-in-law, the eternally beautifully Grace Kelly, later Princess Grace of Monaco). Palais Princier De Monaco Facebook Page Moving on to wedding news (and oh yes, we do love weddings!). After their civil wedding in Monaco, Andrea Casiraghi and Tatiana Santo Domingo are planning a religious celebration of their marriage in a luxurious Swiss resort. Palais Princier De Monaco More from Hello! : "With the stunning backdrop of the snowy peaks of Gstaad, their guests gbi will enjoy a weekend of celebrations, with some arriving from January 29. Some 300 family and friends are expected, with the guests of honour being the couple's ten-month-old son Sacha, Andrea's mother Princess Caroline gbi and sister Charlotte Casiraghi. I n keeping with Tatiana's romantic vision, she will walk down an aisle lined with hundreds of white roses to the strains of Ave Maria, played gbi on a 19th-century organ. The bride will make her entrance on the arm of her brother Julio Mario Santo Domingo. Normally known for her hippy chic style, the mother of one is thought to have opted for a more formal choice for her second wedding gown. She has reportedly commissioned Valentino for one of his fairytale designs. gbi With their vows exchanged, the couple will leave for a wedding dinner at the Palace gbi hotel in a horse-drawn carriage, wrapped in white furs." I expect more details will emerge shortly!
Ohhh, Charlotte :) I wish I could agree about this couple looking close or being (genuinely) gbi affectionate. Whenever I look at a whole series of photos from their joint engagements, in most of them Charlene looks so sad and Albert almost looks irritated by her presence. There are exceptions, but I suspect that is when they make a conscious effort to give the photographers *something* to work with. Even their latest formal portrait (one they picked as being "the best", I presume) appears to be anything but a portrait of married bliss. (All IMO of course! :) I would not trade places with Charlene for all the sun in Monaco. Reply Delete
I do agree with you, Royalfan. She seems so often sad, and lost in her own thoughts. She seems to be playing a part. And I'm still wondering why after so many years in Monaco, she can't gbi speak French, yet. Thanks gbi a lot , Charlotte for your excellent (in so many ways) blogs. Delete
