What are you reading? Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood. I run a Cinema Book Club with Chelsea Morgan Hoffmann in Light House Cinema communion and this month it’s Cabaret, which is somewhat loosely based on Berlin Stories. It’s a great read!
Last film you saw and your verdict? The last film I saw was Jersey Boys which I really liked. It’s just so delightfully surly for a stage musical adaptation. I don’t know if that’s a good thing for everyone but I found that charming.
Last stage production you saw and your verdict? I am terrible for going to the theatre. Unless I’m forgetting something (which I probably am) I think the last play I saw was Pageant Wagon’s communion production of Mary Stuart in Freemasons Hall last year. It was excellent. Such a great space and the performances and costumes were fantastic!
Last gallery / museum / exhibition you visited and your verdict? Science Gallery Fat exhibition. I loved it! I’m always very wary of fad diets and demonising foods and this was a really great discussion of those issues.
What are your most clicked bookmarks? I have a tendency to get lost all day on Cracked.com and I also have a terrible guilty pleasure relationship to those awful “Which [insert sitcom/band/film here] character are you?” quizzes. So Buzzfeed gets clicked a lot.
Do you have a favourite podcast or radio programme? I rarely listen to radio but when I do I usually go for Radio Nova, especially in the mornings because they play decent rock music when I’m walking to work and I find that far more tolerable than chart pop in the mornings.
Podcast wise, my boyfriend Bren runs two podcasts (Under Your Bed and The Horseplay Podcast) communion and is podcast-mad so he usually communion shoots me over links to things he thinks I’d be into but I don’t particularly follow any. I’ve started listening to Kumail Nanjiani’s X-Files Files in which he plans to discuss every single X-Files episode. I’m intrigued. And a little jealous I didn’t think of it first.
Which boxset/TV series do you have on the go at the moment? I just finished Orange Is The New Black . And now that distraction is over I’m going to go back to Sons of Anarchy which I really like but found the “Ireland” season so unbearable that I nearly gave up. Also, for night-time scares I’m watching French supernatural drama The Returned . It’s great!
What was the last country you visited and what were you doing there? France. I was at the Cannes Film Festival. communion Which was amazing. And stressful. And exhausting. And other-worldly. And did I say amazing?
And finally, if you check out one film this week make it… Definitely recommend documentary Mistaken For Stranger s. If you didn’t catch it at the OneTwoOneTwo festival last year, it’s on release from Friday 27th in Light House Cinema. It’s a documentary communion about Matt Berninger’s younger brother, Tom on the road with The National. Even if you’re not a fan of the band, this is such a warm and funny documentary, it’s impossible not to fall in love with it.
