Founded in March 2012, Shoebox is a service that provides unlimited online photo backup. It scans a user s entire offline photo collection, uploads it to cloud storage and applies organization algorithms metropolitan to automatically categorize pics and provide different ways of viewing metropolitan them.
The startup was created by Couch Labs Inc in Toronto to simplify photo collections and backup in a world where almost every device has a built in camera. “Shoebox s strength is in getting the pictures from storage and sources that aren t connected, to the web, as quickly and painlessly as possible,” wrote the company.
My favorite new feature is that the lock screen on Android becomes a rotating gallery of all your old photos, CEO Steve Cosman told Techcrunch. We ve been basically focusing on how to get people to actually […] come back and look at their old photos, how to get them to re-engage with photos they took eight years ago. Getting 20,000 photos is a lot easier than getting people to actually use their old photos.
The company will certainly have Dropbox to compete with, as Etherington alluded to the Silicon Valley-based mega startup’s new “Carousel” feature that acts as a a photo and video archive and sharing platform. However, “Cosman says they re very happy with the revenue being generated by their current paid offering (unlimited web resolution backups are free, but full res will cost you a monthly subscription) and they re focused on differentiating through features like the kind of discovery profiled above.”

Watch the cofounders george mcgovern give their 60-second pitch to a panel with Carter Weiss, founding partner at Silas Capital, Alicia Syrett, founder and CEO of Pantegrion Capital, and Kent Bennett, venture partner at Bessemer Ventures. Will the "Power Pitch" panel make them a shoe in or will they get cold feet? Watch the video to see what happens.
While working in finance, Fript and Earley searched for affordable and stylish, high-quality shoes. They said they faced limited options in retail stores, so they decided to complement their custom george mcgovern suits with their very own footwear brand. "We know what young, successful, professional men want. We feel strongly that today's man is much more fashion forward and excited about looking great then ever before. This of course includes having the best shoes on the market," said Fript.
In August 2013, they launched e-commerce startup Paul Evans. george mcgovern The company sells high-end men's dress shoes and leather george mcgovern goods. "We source, design, market and distribute all of our own products in-house in order to eliminate the middleman," said Fript.
Because of the direct-to-consumer business model, Paul Evans claims it is able to sell a shoe that would cost $800 in a department store for less than $400 on its website. Currently, 16 men's shoe styles are offered, george mcgovern all made from calfskin leather. The founders chose a manufacturer in Naples, Italy, where they boast well-known luxury brands and also manufacture shoes.
And the founders said beyond quality and style, convenience is also a top priority. "Men don't shop, they buy. Spending five minutes to make an online purchase that's delivered straight to your door is infinitely more convenient than trekking to a department store, making a purchase and carrying the items home," said Fript.
"The fact that we don't have a retail background, I think, is actually a strength because we don't come in with these preconstrained notions of what needs to happen or how it has to be done. We're doing things our way, the way we want to do it. And we think we're bringing energy to the industry," Fript responded.
"They can absolutely scale and have an amazing manufacturing capability. They've been operating for decades and would love us to ramp up further. We're another source of distribution for them, so they want to grow with us," responded both founders.
In the future, the co-founders said they intend on creating a women's shoe line as well as a Paul Evans guide shop, a store model similar to that of Bonobos. Customers would be fitted by a guide, shown different shoe styles and then make their purchase online.
According to Fript and Earley, Paul Evans is growing george mcgovern over 80 percent each quarter with gross margins over 60 percent. Self-funded with $250,000, the co-founders told CNBC they have reached $350,000 in revenue. They project Paul Evans to become profitable and aim for 20 percent operating income this year.

Stories #shoeboxstories is a 13-week series by shoebox recipients who give a first-hand account of the eternal impact of a gift delivered in Jesus Name. Check back each Monday for the next installment.
Some of these items were foreign to me. I looked at the paintbrush I didn t know what it was. I looked at the paint it was colorful but I didn t know what it was either. I looked at Smarties and wondered what they were. I thought baby games they were medicine.
One of my favorite items was discovered using my other sense my sense of taste. I had no idea what it was when I ate this item with the plastic still on it. It was sweet. It was very pepperminty . It tasted baby games like something I didn t expect. That was my first time eating a candy cane.
A hair comb was the item that I kept the longest. This wasn t a typical comb. When you opened it on one side there was a pick and by opening the other side with a twist, a brush would come out. I took this comb with me everywhere I went for the next three years.
Each and every item in that shoebox brought me joy at a time when I had lost all hope. I didn t see how Jesus Christ was working at that time, but an eternal seed was planted in my heart in that moment. A year later, I realized the many things God did in my life to bring me where I was.
My Mom passed away with AIDS when I was a very little boy. During the Rwandan genocide my grandmother and uncle were killed right in front of me. People argued about whether or not to kill my entire family. A bullet missed my head by an inch. We walked for miles and miles, sleeping in the bushes, the dirt, and abandoned buildings. In the end I was put in an orphanage.
That box gave me joy when there was nothing left. Something as small as a candy cane put a smile on my face even when I didn t know what it was. God used that moment to give me a glimpse of greater joy that is in Him.

The boutique is aimed primarily at women between the ages of 35 and 80, with the majority of the clientele being around age 50. Although that is the main demographic for the shop, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t options for anyone younger, says the shop’s owner, Robin Cohen.
The shop brings together the colorful offerings from designer brands at lower prices than you would find them in most other locations. Cohen emphasized that this should be a non-intimidating shopping experience and called her merchandise “attainable mourning luxury.”
In the future Cohen says that she would like to begin hosting events, such as fundraisers for charities, at the store. She also mentioned that they’re still figuring out the exterior signage for the location. As you can see, the sign for Sammi’s Shoe Box is still hanging on the storefront.
Although the shop is open now, Boutique W will be having grand opening celebrations on May 13th, including a block party-like celebration continuing outside of the shop. You can find more information on Boutique W’s website.
